New Allegheny County covid case averages compare to November numbers

Allegheny County on Tuesday reported 282 new covid-19 cases and one new death, according to the county Health Department.

These new reported figures bring the seven-day case average (371) and seven-day case count (2,597) to the lowest the statistics have been since mid-November.

Patients hospitalized for covid-19 in Allegheny County grew to 339 on Tuesday, up from 330 on Monday. Hospitalization numbers peaked for the month on Jan. 1 with 697 covid-19 patients hospitalized and have continued to drop since that time.

Total cases in the county now stand at 67,711 and total deaths are 1,270. In January, there have been 13,902 cases and 315 deaths reported.

The majority of cases reported Tuesday were confirmed, with 219 confirmed and 63 probable. It was also the third time in January newly reported cases were under 300.

Newly reported cases ranged in age from 8 months to 95 years, with a median age of 41. Dates of positive tests ranged from Dec. 23 to Monday, with the county Health Department noting one positive test is more than a week old.

The lone death reported was an individual in their 80s and was associated with a long-term care facility. The date of death was Jan. 15.
