When it comes to murder mysteries, not everyone wants theirs steeped in noir, hard-boiled in violence and splashed with sex.
Enter the “cozy mystery” genre, where the emphasis is primarily on the detective work.
“I always think of (the Angela Lansbury television show) ‘Murder She Wrote,’” said Murrysville librarian Emma Beaver. “That’s a cozy mystery if there ever was one. I think in the past decade, it’s become a genre that more people are starting to explore.”
Authors like Joanne Fluke have made their career writing cozy mysteries, and Fluke’s star detective, Hannah Swensen, is the namesake of an ice cream social that Murrysville Community Library officials will host on July 29.
The social will be from 6-7:30 p.m. at the library, 4130 Sardis Road.
And while guests enjoy ice cream, they’ll also learn about four cozy mystery authors and their respective book series.
“We’ll introduce everyone to authors like Fluke, Kate Carlisle, Rita Mae Brown and Caroline G. Hart,” Beaver said.
