The Main Street Tavern in Monongahela, Washington County, was the scene of a shooting — by a bar patron and police — on Saturday.

Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Wednesday, Dec. 27:

Suspect shot by police in Washington County

A suspect was shot by a police officer early Saturday in Monongahela, Washington County.

State police said Jonathan Toth, 49, of Jefferson Hills, made threats at the Main Street Tavern around 12:30 a.m. after he and his wife argued with other patrons. TribLive news partner WTAE-TV reported that the argument was over a game of pool.

Eight people were inside, but no injuries were reported.

Police said that Toth and his wife left the bar and then Toth came back with a gun, firing a shot into a nearby vehicle and several into the bar and rear door. Toth got into a vehicle and a Monongahela officer ordered him to stop, police said. After Toth ignored those commands, police said, the officer fired a shot at Toth, hitting him, and Toth continued to drive, leading police on a short chase that ended in Forward Township.

Police said Toth was taken to a hospital for treatment and was expected to face multiple charges, including multiple counts of attempted homicide, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm and discharging a weapon into an occupied structure.

Car rescue in Unity

State police were called to Possum Hollow Road in Unity early Wednesday after receiving calls of a car going over an embankment and ending on its side.

Westmoreland County 911 said the call came in just before 4:45 a.m. and that first responders had to use ropes to get the driver out of the car.

No further information was immediately available.

Mayor of Seven Fields arrested

State police said the mayor of Seven Fields and a woman were arrested Saturday along Northridge Drive after a physical altercation.

Police said they responded to a domestic disturbance Saturday afternoon on Northridge and observed injuries to both Mayor Dean Galitsis, 44, and Tami Galitsis, 43.

Police said Dean Galitsis told them an argument had escalated between the couple and Tami Galitsis had threatened him with a knife. Tami Galitsis told police that Dean Galitsis had become aggressive and she was trying to defend herself, according to the report.

Both Tami and Dean Galitsis were charged with simple assault and harassment. Tami Galitsis also is facing a charge of making terroristic threats.

Borough manager Tom Smith told the Cranberry Eagle that “borough council is aware of the situation and believes it is a personal matter and does not involve borough operations.”

Both were taken to Butler County Prison. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 5.
