Weekly Downtown patrol arrests, citations numbers reported
Pittsburgh police have posted arrest and citation numbers produced by the Downtown High-Visibility patrol from July 8-14.
The police announced the patrol unit last week after noticing an uptick in crime. Downtown Public Safety Center (DPSC) supervisors and officers received additional support from K-9, Cycle unit, Narcotics and Vice, Traffic units and Violence Prevention unit officers who focus on specific areas of concern Downtown. There has been a patrol vehicle dedicated to the patrol for nightly cruises through the area.
Statistics from the first week of the High-Visibility patrol’s activation include 29 arrests, 36 non-traffic citations, one parking citation and three traffic citations from the DPSC. The patrol’s Violence Prevention unit and Narcotics unit made five arrests and two non-traffic citations. Traffic units handed out 48 parking citations, five traffic citations, made eight tows and made no arrests.
Pa. Turnpike reopens after live wires fall across lanes
Part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the North Hills region reopened late Monday after live power lines came down across all driving lanes.
The communications team for the Turnpike told TribLive news partner WTAE the lines came down about 7:40 p.m. near mile marker 36. Around 8 p.m. the lanes in both directions between the Cranberry (Exit 28) and Butler Valley (Exit 39) interchanges were closed down.
Severe thunderstorms rolled through parts of Southwestern Pennsylvania on Monday evening, causing trees and power lines to come down in Westmoreland and Indiana counties. As of Tuesday morning, Duquesne Light Company reports zero power outages.
