Officer hurt, people charged
A Glassport police officer is recovering after being bit by a dog Saturday afternoon.
Police Chief Shawn Deverse told TribLive news partner WTAE that an officer was bit while investigating an incident shortly before 4 p.m. along the 600 block of Cherry Way.
Body camera footage appeared to show the officer and the dog’s owner speaking to one another when the dog broke loose from its leash and attacked the officer, the chief said.
The officer fired one gunshot at the dog while being attacked. The dog was taken to a Monroeville vet and the officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Deverse said three people, including the two owners of the dog and a friend, have been charged after they allegedly threatened officers on scene. The chief said one of those charged also allegedly spit on an officer following the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
Collision in South Side Flats
Pittsburgh Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash in the South Side Flats that resulted in three people hospitalized.
Public Safety spokesperson Eliza Durham said police, fire and EMS were dispatched to the 3200 block of East Carson Street for the crash with rollover and entrapment at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
An electric vehicle and an SUV collided, resulted in the SUV overturning and striking a light pole.
EMS crews found two patients trapped inside the overturned SUV. A third occupant exited the vehicle prior to their arrival.
Durham said paramedics stabilized the vehicle and performed a roof removal to extricate the two entrapped people. Medics then initiated care on scene.
One person was taken to a hospital in critical condition while two others were transported in stable condition.
The driver of the electric vehicle, only identified as a man, remained on scene and did not report any injuries, Durham reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
