Vehicle crashes into UPMC Shadyside Hospital
A vehicle drove through the side of the Shadyside Medical Building at UPMC Shadyside Hospital early Friday morning.
The building is along the 5200 block of Centre Avenue.
A spokesperson for UPMC told TribLive the vehicle crashed just before 1:30 a.m. into the West Wing of the building along the 5200 block of Centre Avenue, a non-patient area of the building.
The driver is being treated at one of the UPMC hospitals.
No patient care will be impacted, the spokesperson said.
It was unclear Friday morning what caused the crash.
Firefighter treated at blaze in Perry South
A fire was reported Friday morning in Pittsburgh’s Perry South neighborhood.
The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. in a vacant building on the 2900 block of North Charles Street, as reported by TribLive newspartner WTAE.
A firefighter was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
ICE protests continue in Oakland
Pittsburgh area protests over the shooting death of Renee Good by an federal Immigrant and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis continued Thursday night.
At 5 p.m., protesters from organizations such as 50501 Pittsburgh, Sunrise Movement Pittsburgh and Frontline Dignity gathered in Schenley Plaza in Oakland, according to social media posts about the event.
Videos of the demonstration online showed protesters made their way down Forbes Avenue — marching, chanting and carrying signs.
During the protest, demonstrators asked leaders at the city, county, and state levels to end cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and to prosecute the federal agency, as reported by TribLive news partner WTAE.
U-haul truck stuck on tracks at Station Square
A U-haul truck broke down Friday morning on the Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s Station Square train tracks.
PRT spokesman Eddie Phillips said the Red, Silver and Blue lines were all temporarily rerouted through Allentown.
How the truck got onto the tracks was not known.

Just before 7 a.m., PRT posted an update saying “the rails are clear and we are back to normal operation.”
