Police caution flight seekers of fake South Park balloon festival
Allegheny County police are warning of a phony hot air balloon festival named Pittsburgh Balloon Glow.
In a message Monday, county police said multiple residents arrived at their South Park station over the weekend claiming to have prepaid tickets for the event, supposedly located at 3730 Buffalo Drive in South Park.
County police believe the incident is part of an ongoing nationwide scam and had no connection with Allegheny County Parks. Authorities from Florida, Connecticut and other states have uncovered similar scams in years past.
Anyone that may have information is asked to contact the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-255-8477.
Archers wanted for Pittsburgh deer culling program
Pittsburgh is seeking archers to participate in its expanded Deer Management Program.
City officials announced Monday that 50 archers and 50 alternates will be selected using a lottery for the right to hunt in Frick, Riverview, Schenley, Highland and Emerald View parks.
Last season, 30 archers killed 108 deer in Frick Park and donated nearly 10,000 meals.
All selected archers must be 18 or older, live in Allegheny County, pass a criminal background check, plan to purchase a 2B Antlerless Tag and not participate in other deer management programs.
From there, hunter hopefuls must pass an accuracy test and meet additional stipulations while they hunt, with a zero-tolerance policy for all violators.
