Police investigate shooting in Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar

Pittsburgh police are investigating after a man was shot in the leg late Monday night in the city’s Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Lemington Avenue and Oberlin Street just before 11 p.m. in response to a SpotShooter alert. After searching the scene and surrounding areas, officers said they found a man on a porch in the 7200 block of Lemington Avenue. He had a bullet wound in his left leg.

Officers treated the man until medics arrived by applying a tourniquet to his leg. Police said he was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

Violent Crime Unit detectives are handling the investigation.

Turkey Talk

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is once again seeking input from the public in surveying wild turkeys this summer. The annual Pennsylvania Wild Turkey Sighting Survey runs July 1 through Aug. 31.

Participants are asked to report the number of wild turkeys they see, along with the county, township, wildlife management unit (WMU), date and contact information if agency biologists have any questions.

Public participation is important for turkey population management, the commission said. Survey data allows the agency to determine total wild turkey productivity and compare long-term reproductive success within Pennsylvania and across other states. Data is also used in the turkey population model to track population trends.

The information will be used in the commission’s turkey population model. Many factors, including spring weather, habitat conditions, previous winter food abundance, predation and last fall’s harvest affect wild turkey productivity, the commission says. All types of turkeys should be reported including gobblers, hens with broods, hens without broods, or turkeys of “unknown sex and age,” said Game Commission Turkey Biologist Mary Jo Casalena in a statement.

Turkey sightings can be reported through the Game Commission’s website.

South Side entertainment patrol numbers

Pittsburgh police have released the latest arrests and citations carried out by the South Side Entertainment Patrol.

In numbers gathered from June 19 to 23, there were 18 traffic stops, 20 traffic citations, 23 non-traffic citations, eight arrests, eight tows and one firearm recovered.

The patrol was created to focus enforcement in the East Carson Street corridor.

Police said they plan to continue the increased presence for the foreseeable future.
