Charges are pending against two juveniles in connection with a fight at Gateway High School late Thursday morning.

Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said officers were dispatched shortly before 11:40 for an altercation involving at least four students at the school.

Video submitted to the Tribune-Review shows several girls kicking and punching each other in the cafeteria while other students and an officer attempt to pull them apart. It is unclear what may have started the fight.

Cole said no injuries were reported.

Police are also reviewing video of the incident, and more arrests may be forthcoming.

The chief said this was not the first fight officers had to break up at the high school this year. He declined to get into specifics about those other incidents, other than no serious injuries were reported.

Principal Justin Stephans sent letters to district families about the incident.

“Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our students, their families, and our staff,” Stephans wrote. “During lunch, there was an altercation between several students in the cafeteria. School administrators and staff, along with Gateway School Police and Monroeville Police were able to address the incident immediately.”

Messages left at the high school and district offices were not immediately returned.
