Eighth-graders complete their final school walk-a-thon on May 23 at Divine Mercy Academy in Monroeville.

Students and faculty members at Divine Mercy Academy have gotten their steps in, exceeding a fundraising goal in the process.

The Monroeville school’s annual walk-a-thon was held on the afternoon of May 23. Kindergarten through eighth-grade students participated, acquiring pledges via mybooster.com. Every grade had the opportunity to contribute to the fundraising goal.

This year’s goal was $10,000, and the total exceeded $13,000. The money from the walk benefits the Catholic school’s Parent-Teacher Guild, which pays for many of the fun activities students enjoy, and will contribute toward the long-term fundraising goal of $100,000.

The first two classes that successfully registered 100% on mybooster.com are to receive an ice cream party provided by The Meadows and extra recess time.

Awards were given for the following categories:

• Student or family raising the most in total donations receives two Kennywood silver season passes and four Pittsburgh Pirates tickets, a minimum of $250 total pledged.

• Students or families raising the second and third most each receive four Pirates tickets.

• The highest number of pledges receives four Pirates tickets.

• Student or family raising the most in business pledges receives four Pirates tickets.

• The faculty or staff member who raises the most in total donations receives two Pirates tickets.

The kids were treated to Griff’s Italian Ice and cotton candy after the walk-a-thon.
