The Monroeville Municipal Authority’s sanitary sewer rates will increase in 2022, while water rates will remain the same.

As a part of the Clean Water Act, the EPA is requiring cities to upgrade their sanitary sewer systems and reduce the environmental impact from sewer overflows into the regions waterways. The subsequent upgrades have resulted in an increase in sanitary sewer treatment charges from ALCOSAN of 7% as of the first of the year. The authority sewer expenses will increase by approximately $550,000.

On Jan. 12, sanitary sewer rates increased by 7% per 1,000 gallons. The resulting residential rate will go from $13.64 to $14.59 per 1,000 gallons. ALCOSAN also increased the monthly service charge 7% from $6.37 to $6.82. The monthly sewer bill for a residential minimum user (2,000 gallons) will increase by $2.35 in 2022.
