A residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility is coming to Monroeville.

Recovery Centers of America received unanimous approval May 14 from Monroeville council to begin renovating a vacant building at 2380 McGinley Road.

The organization plans to spend up to $20 million on renovations.

Approximately 78,000 square feet, the building sits on more than nine acres, according to county real estate records.

Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Deni Carise said the facility would have up to 125 beds with as many as 140 staff members.

She said the rehab center, as a for-profit business, would not have governmental contracts or accept court references. The patients would be voluntary admissions.

The center, with headquarters in King of Prussia and eight other locations in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, accepts insurance from major providers, including Aetna, Cigna and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

A call about the cost to patients was not returned.
