Monroeville United Methodist Church is hosting two events during the holiday season for people who are not feeling particularly merry amid all the festiveness surrounding them.
A “Holiday Survival Guide” event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 6, hosted by the church’s health and wellness team for those who are stressed by the holidays and for those facing because of loss of health, job, relationships or a loved one.
An experienced licensed counselor from the Counseling and Wellness Center of Greater Pittsburgh will offer ways to survive the holidays, despite stress or grief that can be a part of the season.
The presenter will be Amy White, who is certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Her practical approach is inclusive in representing a wide range of worldviews and backgrounds.
The program will be in person in the church Fellowship Hall and will be live-streamed on www.facebook.com/monroevilleumc.
A “Liturgy for the Weary” worship service will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 13.
For those who have experienced loss, the joy of the holiday season can often feel elusive and out of reach. As a result, churches around the world have adopted the practice of having a “Blue Christmas” or a “Longest Night” service during the Advent season. These services are designed to provide space for prayer, reflection and remembrance amidst the twinkle lights and holiday hustle and bustle.
