The students of Divine Mercy Academy in Monroeville honored veterans with a special program on Nov. 13.

The program began with the pledge of allegiance and the singing of the national anthem. There was a special prayer of gratitude and blessing for veterans.

“We are here to honor true heroes, the men and women who have served our country. We are also here to remember their achievements, their dedication, and their courage, and to say thank you for all that they have done for our freedom and our country,” Principal Nikole Laubham said. “Thinking of the heroes who join us here today and those who are here only in spirit, we are in awe. We are in the midst of true patriots and their family members who have sacrificed for all of us here today.”

The DMA Cantor Choir performed a selection of patriotic songs. Following the songs, each military branch was called to the front of the school gym to receive a small gift of thanks from the students.

The program ended with a moment of silence and then the playing of Taps.
