Ahead at the library: 'Robot petting zoo,' author chat and more

The following free activities are scheduled to take place at Monroeville Public Library:

Children aged 18 months to 3 years-old are invited for Tot Time from 10 to 10:30 a.m. March 17.

Storytime will be from 11 a.m. to noon March 17. There will be a combination of stories, songs, rhymes and crafts to engage younger children.

Dorren Putnam will give a talk on reducing caregiver stress from 2:30 to 4 p.m. March 13 in the Gallery Space. She will share basic information about Alzheimer’s and dementia, their warning signs, physical changes in the brain and effective communication techniques for caregivers.

Mommy and Me will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. March 16. The session is for interactive play and reading that will stimulate babies.

The library will host a St. Patrick’s Day Storytime from 11 to 11:45 a.m. and again from 4 to 4:45 p.m. March 16 in the Gallery Space. There will be stories of rainbows and leprechauns with rhymes and activities.

Learn to draw Zentangle from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 16 in the Program Room.

Author Cody McDevitt will discuss his book “Banished from Johnstown” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 16 in the Gallery Space. The book is about a 1923 deadly shooting spree that led the Johnstown mayor to order every African American and Mexican immigrant who had lived in the city for less than seven years to leave.

Children are invited to the library’s “robot petting zoo” from 10 to 11 a.m. March 17 in the Gallery Space. There will be different types of robots available for children to play with.

The library will give a demonstration on its “GlowForge,” a laser cutter and engraver, from 6 to 7 p.m. March 17 in the Maker Lab. Contact the library to sign up for the event.

The community is invited to Big Table Pittsburgh’s first session to talk about hopes and values for the community from 2 to 3 p.m. and again from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 18 in Johnna’s Room.

The Teen Anime Club will meet to talk about anime and manga from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 18 in Yolanda’s Room.
