Mon Incline to reopen Monday after weeklong shutdown
The Monongahela Incline will reopen Monday after a week of shutdown, Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced Friday evening.

Last Friday, the incline shut down after 12 passengers were stranded for about an hour. Crews were able to get the cars moving again around 6 p.m. that day.
Pittsburgh Regional Transit said condensation build up caused by an air conditioning unit attached to the incline’s electrical equipment triggered the funicular’s emergency brake, stopping both cars.
The agency said Monday that the air conditioning unit is necessary because it keeps the incline’s electrical circuitry from overheating.
The 153-year-old Mon Incline takes passengers between Station Square and Mount Washington. It has experienced a number of issues and closures over the years, including a shutdown between August 2022 and last March while an $8.2 million repair project was completed.
