The incline cars stopped unexpectedly about 50 feet away from their end gates at about 5 p.m., spokesperson Adam Brandolph said.
The cars returned to their stations by about 6 p.m., he said.
No one was reported injured. There were nine passengers going up from the lower station and three passengers on the car going down from the upper station, Brandolph said.
Crews are working to determine the cause of the service disruption.
Shuttle bus service for the Mon Incline is not available at this time. Incline patrons can utilize 40-Mt. Washington which boards on Smithfield Street Bridge @ Station Sq (Stop ID: 6096). https://t.co/31VP7dLKST
