McCandless Ward 6 councilwoman resigns
McCandless Township is seeking applicants to fill the unexpired term of Ward 6 Republican Councilwoman Carolyn Schweiger.
The council accepted her resignation, effective immediately, at its meeting on Oct. 9.
Schweiger said she and her family are moving to another residence in McCandless not in Ward 6. Therefore, she cannot represent that ward.
“I have enjoyed my time on council and working with administration staff for the last five years. The current members of council have been a dream to work with and are the most supportive, understanding and kind group of people,” Schweiger said.
Her council term expires Dec. 31, 2025.
In the case of a council vacancy, the remaining members of council shall appoint by majority vote a qualified replacement from the same political party, according to township ordinance. If a vacancy exists for 45 days, then Common Pleas Court can be petitioned to appoint a replacement from the same political party..
The deadline to apply is Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. Applicants must be qualified voters who are registered as Republicans residing in Ward 6 in the township.
The application is available at www.townofmccandless.org. It must be submitted with a resume and/or letter of interest to administration@townofmccandless.org or to Town of McCandless, 9955 Grubbs Road, Wexford, PA 15090.
“Carol will be sorely missed especially her focus and specialty with the police department and many other things she has done for the community,” said Council President Michael Tarle.
