Hampton High School seniors Grace Kang and Tejas Badgujar have been named 2019 National Merit Scholarship winners.

Grace was awarded the National Merit PPG Foundation Scholarship, financed by PPG in Pittsburgh. Scholarships are awarded to exceptionally-able young men and women who are residents of selected communities where PPG maintains manufacturing or distribution operations, or who are children of PPG employees.

Tejas was awarded the National Merit Emerson Electric Co. Scholarship, funded by Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, Inc. The scholarship is awarded to outstanding sons and daughters of Emerson employees.

Both Grace and Tejas have indicated they intend to pursue higher education in computer science upon graduation from Hampton in June.

More than 1.6 million juniors in approximately 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program when they took the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test , which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
