The Greenfield Bridge will be closed for a month for maintenance and repair, the Pittsburgh Department of Mobility and Infrastructure announced.

The bridge, which spans the Parkway East to link the city’s Greenfield neighborhood to Schenley Park, will close at 7 a.m. Monday.

The contractor that built the bridge, Mosites Construction Co., will be milling the concrete deck of the bridge and installing a new concrete surface to prevent water from seeping into the bridge deck. The coating on the east barrier of the bridge will also be replaced.

During the month of work, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians as well as vehicle traffic.

Traffic will be detoured via Beechwood Boulevard, Forward Avenue, Murray Avenue and Beacon Street. The work won’t impact traffic on the Parkway East below the bridge.

The original Greenfield Bridge fell into disrepair, becoming such a national symbol of infrastructure failure that it was featured on “60 Minutes” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.” After being closed and imploded in late 2015, it was rebuilt and reopened in October 2017.
