A gas line rupture in Scott led to a temporary evacuation of three homes late Thursday near Greentree Road Shops, a commercial plaza off Greentree Road.

Authorities evacuated three homes late Thursday after a gas line ruptured just off Greentree Road in Scott, according to Trib news partner WPXI-TV.

Firefighters told the news station that the fire occurred about 11:30 p.m. after a utility wire fell on to a fence, igniting a fire and cracking the gas line.

The fire happened in an area behind the Greentree Road Shops, a commercial plaza along Greentree Road.

Scott firefighters told the news station the families were permitted to return to the homes early Friday. Crews from Columbia Gas Co. repaired the line.
