Sail into the Safari Sunset, all for a good cause, when the Women’s Board of Pittsburgh hosts its annual benefit to support children.
“This exciting annual fundraiser, always a sold-out event, has enabled the Women’s Board to give more than $1.4 million to area nonprofits that support underserved children in our community,” spokesperson Lisa Bowden said.
The festivities will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. April 25 at the Fox Chapel Golf Club.
The event includes cocktails, a sit-down dinner, silent and live auctions, and a fashion show with the latest spring and summer styles from Carabella of Oakmont.
Tickets are $200 each and can be purchased at wbpgh.org.
This year’s event will benefit Fox Families Care and Grow Pittsburgh, both nonprofits that support the welfare and development of children.
Fox Families Care began in 2019 to bridge the gap between the needs of families and sometimes-limited budgets.
The group provides services such as emergency grants for clothes, shoes, school supplies and camp scholarships.
Proceeds from the event will specifically be used to provide underserved children with the chance to attend Camp Guyasuta’s summer STEAM activities.
Grow Pittsburgh, a group that supports food-growing initiatives as a way to improve the social, economic and health conditions of youths, teaches children to grow food by building gardens in schools and communities.
Established in 2005, Grow Pittsburgh has started more than 40 school garden programs.
Proceeds from the Women’s Board fundraiser will provide grants to update garden beds to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards and allow all children to participate in the gardening process.
Last year’s benefit, Springtime in Paris, brought in more than $83,000 to benefit four area groups: Earthen Vessels Outreach, Foster Love Project, Joy Riders and the Will Allen Foundation.
Foster Love, based in Wilkinsburg, provides free shopping experiences for children in the foster care system.
Earthen Vessels Outreach is a Bloomfield group that provides before- and after-school care and summer camps for economically disadvantaged children.
Joy Riders of Pittsburgh provides bike rides to physically and mentally disabled people who are unable to operate a bike themselves.
The Will Allen Foundation is a nonprofit started by former Pittsburgh Steeler Will Allen. The foundation raises money for three programs to help economically challenged children: a holiday giving project, a backpack supply program and Quest for Success.
