Shannon Slack wants you to walk in her shoes.
The Mt. Lebanon native, who lives in Pine, launched a shoe line called Luna Selene. The footwear collection is designed to fashionable and functional.
“I wanted to create shoes that were timeless and that women could wear from work to a night out,” said Slack, who works in healthcare sales. “I am on my feet a lot, but I still prefer to wear heels. I feel more confident in heels. I’ve noticed the heels on the shoes I’ve been wearing have been getting lower and lower. I wanted to design a shoe that has a 3-inch heel or lower.”

She ended up doing just that in this past July – in the middle of the pandemic.
“I realize that was a most inconvenient time to start a business,” said Slack. “But I thought if I worked on the shoe line in 2020, it would help me prepare for 2021. I don’t feel like we will be quarantined forever. I do think women will still need fashionable, comfortable shoes.”
Slack has two styles — a pump and a kitten heel — in multiple colors. Sizes range from 6-10. She offers some half-sizes. The pump is $250. It’s $230 for a kitten heel.
Luna Selene footwear will be featured at “A Galentine’s Day Pop-Up” from noon to 5 p.m. on Feb. 11 at One Brilliant, a women’s clothing and accessories boutique in Aspinwall.
Slack said when she met Erica Miller, owner of One Brilliant, the connection to collaborate was instant. Miller is a “true professional and has an amazing customer base,” Slack said.
It truly was a good fit, Miller said via email.
“I’m excited to be the host of a new company launch,” Miller said. “In light of our stressful times, it feels wonderful to support new emerging businesses especially when it complements all the beautiful clothes at One Brilliant.”
Slack said she wants the shoes to be seen as both feminine and powerful, shoes a woman can wear anywhere.
The shoes are super cute, said Suzanne Mauro, retail consultant for One Brilliant.
“We are stronger when we all work together,” Mauro said. “Retailers have to pivot, and they really have to think more creatively and more collaboratively.”
Partnering with Luna Selene is new territory for One Brilliant, Mauro said. She hopes the collaboration will allow both businesses to accomplish so much more. One Brilliant and Luna Selene have also teamed up with Pittsburgh-based Gold Dust Floral and A519 Chocolate and are offering gift boxes of flowers, candy and shoes or an item from the One Brilliant boutique. Those can be ordered online and picked up at One Brilliant.
The shoe company name came from a previous career consulting job Slack had at “Moonlighting Career Services.” She said she chose Luna, which means moon and Selene, the goddess of the moon.
‘It sounded so luxurious and just seemed to fit the brand vision perfectly,” Slack said. “I wanted my shoes to be versatile enough for women to wear to the office and beyond, which is why the name was heavily influenced by my prior career consulting.”
Slack said she plans to add more styles. Shoes can also be purchased through the company website.
“I want women to feel good in these shoes,” Slack said. “My grandfather always told me ‘you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes.’ ”
She hopes she’ll be able to tell they are her shoes.
