Heavy traffic tangles are expected in Etna during a bridge construction project scheduled to begin Monday.

Crews from Alison Park Contractors will repair the bridge dam and sidewalk near the Butler Street Bridge over Pine Creek.

Cost of the project was not yet released. The work is part of a bridge-on-demand contract, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said.

Construction is expected to last through mid-June.

The bridge sits between Kittanning and Maplewood streets, just past the Etna Towne Center near Advanced Auto Parts.

Borough Manager Mary Ellen Ramage thanked people in advance for their patience. She said motorists should expect substantial delays during rush hour.

Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction. Cowan said two 11-foot-wide lanes will be maintained on the bridge.
