The Fox Chapel Area School Board on May 8 adopted a proposed 2023-2024 budget that calls for a 1.5% property tax increase.

It would be the district’s third tax hike in three years if approved.

Final adoption of the budget is expected June 12, following a June 5 school board meeting to discuss the proposed spending plan.

The proposed budget is subject to change before final approval June 12, according to school district spokeswoman Bonnie Berzonski.

Under the proposed plan approved May 8, the school district would spend nearly $115.4 million in 2023-24 against revenues of almost $114.7 million. The district would make up the difference by using money from its financial reserves. The district has several reserve funds, which combined total $26.5 million.

The proposed millage rate for 2023-2024 would be 20.7352 mills. Each mill generates approximately $3.7 million for the school district.

The proposed budget is available on the district’s website at www.fcasd.edu.

The June 5 meeting will be held at Fox Chapel Area High School in the large group instruction room, and the June 12 meeting will be held in the O’Hara Elementary School auditorium. Both meetings begin at 7 p.m.
