Sharpsburg residents are encouraged to open their doors, set up some tables and get ready to mingle at the inaugural community-wide yard sale, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10.

The event is spearheaded by resident Debbie Bobeck.

She said folks along 13th and Middle streets have had an annual yard sale in September the past five years.

“We have a busy street, plus we have food,” Bobeck said Aug. 30. “I thought, why don’t we open it up for the whole community? I’ve been putting flyers up everywhere. I think it’s good to get the community involved.

“We don’t do carnivals anymore. We’re not doing a craft show, so I think this is good. It will be fun. Just running into old friends, it’s fun to do that.”

Bobeck said 40 people have signed up to participate. Registration is not required.

People from the Body and Soul Senior Center are expected to set up a booth and raise money for center programs.

A separate event called Food on 13th is also planned for Sept. 10 starting at 8 a.m. There will be chicken, burgers, jerk beef and more available for purchase.

More information about the yard sale is available online at sharpsburgborough.com/news.
