Third and fourth grade students from Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy helped spread holiday cheer to patients of UPMC St. Margaret hospital near Aspinwall.

The students decorated the Christmas tree in the hospital’s lobby with handmade ornaments and sang holiday carols.

“Many of our patients aren’t sure if they will be home for the holidays,” said St. Margaret Foundation President Mary Lee Gannon. “Patients tell us that to see the children and their ornaments on our Christmas tree makes them smile and reminds them of fond holiday memories.”

The students and their teachers walked to the hospital from their school. They received cookies and candy canes from the St. Margaret Foundation.

The foundation is accepting donations to brighten the lives of patients hospitalized during the holidays with a poinsettia or reindeer LED candlelight. Those wanting to donate can make a gift to the Holiday Gifts for Patients Program at www.stmargaretfoundation.org/donate.
