Blawnox Easter Egg hunt set for April 2
Blawnox families looking for some outdoor fun can find it in abundance at the sixth annual Easter Egg hunt.
Presented by Best of Blawnox in partnership with Howard Hannah Fox Chapel office, festivities begin at noon on April 1 at the community park, 500 Center Ave.
About 100 children took part in the hunt last year.
Realtor and event Coordinator Deborah Jones hopes just as many families enjoy what she has planned this time around.
“I’m really excited for it to be just as successful this year, and looking forward to meeting people and having a good time,” Jones said. “Part of being a Realtor is meeting a lot of people, getting out in the community, getting involved and it’s something that I’m passionate about.”
Hunts are planned for 1-3 p.m.
Children will be split into groups based on age so everyone has a chance to find some of the 750 eggs hidden throughout the park.
Other Easter activities at the park include arts and crafts, temporary tattoos, a balloon artist and donut decorating. Slammin’ Sams’s Pizza & Subs will be selling pizza by the slice.
Best of Blawnox President Diane Casile said the hunt has become a borough tradition and fits well with the nonprofit’s mission.
“One of the focuses of our mission is to bring the community together, and a lot of times that means bringing the community outside,” Casile said. “When you look back to what we like to call ‘The old days,’ people were outside all the time. You knew your neighbors. The kids played in the park and on the streets with their neighbors. A lot of that has gone.
“People are working harder than ever taking care of their families, and everyone has a busy schedule. We like to take an opportunity when we can to get people (together).”
This is the first hunt organized by Jones, who said it could not be done without Casile’s help.
“It’s been easy because Diane has helped me through everything, and I enjoy putting events together,” said Jones. “It hasn’t been too rough. All of the (activities) are free for all.”
No registration is necessary.
