A.W. Beattie Career Center will host a spring open house from 5:15 to 8 p.m. Feb. 29 at its campus, 9600 Babcock Blvd., McCandless.

The event gives prospective students an opportunity to learn about the school’s 19 programs and how each one prepares students for college and career pathways, according to Shawn Annarelli, Beattie’s public relations coordinator.

Beattie Career Center is offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors in nine school districts: Avonworth, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel Area, Hampton Township, North Allegheny, North Hills, Northgate, Pine-Richland and Shaler Area .

Families can expect to meet Beattie’s instructors and current students who volunteer to assist during the open house. The event is open to any student and members of his or her family.

Those who typically attend the open house are ninth- and 10th-grade students as they consider A.W. Beattie programs in their daily school schedule for 2024-25.

“They are welcome to visit and tour as many programs as they would like and ask any questions related to the programs, curriculum, student experiences and opportunities that students may take advantage of, like extracurriculars, cooperative education and articulation agreements for college credits,” Annarelli said.

Sarah Witherell is a North Allegheny senior who is a second-year student in the health and nursing sciences program at Beattie.

“My experience at A.W. Beattie has been great for two years, and I’ve been fortunate to learn a lot about potentially going into the medical field,” she said. “I feel that I have been prepared for possibly going to school for nursing or maybe something else in the medical field because of all of the opportunities we have in class, in our lab and also in career exploration.”
