Farmers’ market opens
The Bethel Park Farmers’ Market will open its 17th season from 3-7 p.m. May 2 at the South Park VIP Parking Lot near the ice-skating rink located off Corrigan Drive. The market will run every Tuesday through Sept. 26, rain or shine.

Tea party at library
Bethel Park Public Library’s annual American Girl Family Tea Party fundraiser is back in person.
Children and their adult guests are invited to share in games, crafts, light refreshments and fun from 2 to 4 p.m. April 30. Attendees will be automatically entered to win an American Girl doll. Also featured will be basket raffles and doll clothing and accessories for sale.
Tickets are $30 per pair and $10 for each additional family member, and can be purchased in person at the library, 5100 W. Library Ave.
Plant sale at South Park Shops
Treehaven Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon May 13 at South Park Shops, 5209 Library Road, Bethel Park in front of Rite Aid.
Treat your mother to a hanging flower basket from Lenik Greenhouse, or a potted perennial or bulb the club’s own gardens. www.facebook.com/TreehavenGardenClub.
‘Amazing Grace Race’ scheduled
The Acting Up Club at South Hills Church of the Nazarene will present its next musical “The Amazing Grace Race,” at 6 p.m. April 29 and 30.
The performances will be held at the church, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park. All are welcome to attend. Admission is free, and a cookie reception will follow to meet and greet the performers and staff.
‘Island Connections’ program
Thomasina Larson will present an “Island Connection” program at 6:30 p.m. May 17 in Council Chambers at the Bethel Park Municipal Building.
The Bethel Park resident has published a second book about the Aeolian Islands and the early immigrants who came to America.
She will discuss the story of the people who left the tiny volcanic islands near Sicily. Learn about these unique islands, Italian orphans or the “children of the wheel,” “white widows of Italy,” how they built their own Italian churches, “mischief, mayhem, and murder” and more in the program presented by Bethel Park Public Library.
Oliver Miller Homestead opens
The Oliver Miller Homestead in South Park is open to the public for self-guided tours from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays, with the last admission at 4 o’clock, from May 7 through the second Sunday in December.
Admission is $2 for special event Sundays and $1 on other Sundays.
A special event scheduled for May 21 is “Fiber, Fabric, & Fashion.” From flax to linen and wool to woven, see how the people of the frontier clothed themselves. This event gives special attention to not only how clothing was made, but the styles in which it was worn. A fashion show is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Yard waste collection
A yard waste collection event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 at Bethel Park Public Works, 2490 Slater Road.
Leaves, twigs, bushes, brush and other yard debris will be accepted in paper bags. Branches need to be bundled.
The event continues on the third Saturday of each month through September.
