An East Liberty man was arrested Saturday after being accused of robbing a Shadyside bank, authorities said.

Pittsburgh Police charged Rashon Coleman, 29, with two counts of robbery and one count theft by unlawful taking for stealing $25,045 from the PNC Bank at 5932 Centre Ave.

Coleman entered the bank around 11:45 a.m. Saturday and started screaming “This is a bank robbery, everyone get down,” according to a criminal complaint. Bank tellers emptied two drawers, and the bank manager gave Coleman $20,000 from the Teller Cash Recycler (TCR), the complaint said.

Zone 4 officers responded to calls about the robbery-in-progress at 11:48 a.m. and broadcast Coleman’s description over the radio, police said. Police found him shortly after in a FedEx Office on Centre Avenue with a plastic Aldi bag full of cash, authorities said. A bank teller went to the FedEx Office and identified Coleman as the bank robber, according to the complaint.

Coleman told police he did not want to speak with detectives and was taken to Allegheny County Jail, where he was held on $100,000 bond. He was arraigned early Sunday and faces a preliminary hearing May 25 before District Judge Kim Berkeley Clark, according to court records.

A Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson did not return calls for comment.
