Duquesne University police and guards will be back on the job at 7 a.m. Wednesday after going on strike Monday morning.

The university has reached a tentative contract with its police force and security guards, the school announced Tuesday night.

The 28-member police force, members of Teamsters Local 249, walked off the job Monday morning after a two-hour bargaining session on Sunday failed. The union’s contract with the university expired in October.

“As a result, effective 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, Wednesday, April 19, the full complement of police officers and security guards will return to work,” said Gabriel Welsch, Duquesne’s vice president of marketing and communications said in a written announcement.

The statement did not include any contract details. The union had said sticking points had included wages, pension and retirement issues and contract concessions. The university had said its contract offer was better than many others offered at other institutions.

“The University appreciates the good faith efforts of all involved in the negotiating process that led to resolving this matter swiftly and positively for the good of our students and our entire campus community,” Welsch wrote.
