Bridgeville budget meeting

Bridgeville Borough Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 in council chambers and virtually via www.zoom.us (Meeting ID: 7328600080, Password: 032445) or by conference call at 1-646-558-8656.

The purpose of the meeting is to review and discuss the proposed 2023 budget and general business brought before Council.

‘Battle of Bower Hill’

The Scott Conservancy will host a program, “The Battle of Bower Hill”, presented by Robert Windhorst from the Woodville Plantation.

The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Scott Lodge at Scott Park.

Learn about the important role the Battle at Bower Hill, which occurred in Scott, played in the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. The program is open to the public free of charge.

Presto VFD event

Presto Volunteer Fire Department is hosting an open house and trunk-or-treat.

The event is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 30 at 5228 Thoms Run Road, Collier. Trick-or-treating in the township is from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Women’s club meets in Scott on Nov. 8

The next South Hills Women’s Club meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Scott Park Lodge, Scott Township. Nonperishable food or monetary donations will be accepted for the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank.

The program will be presented by retired journalist Ed Blank, who will share information on the “Greatest Movies and the Best and Worst Celebrity Interviews. “

Bridgeville Halloween parade on Oct. 29

Bridgeville’s Halloween parade is scheduled for Oct. 29, from Gregg Avenue to the volunteer fire department, 370 Commercial St. Lineup is at 10 a.m., and the parade starts at 11.

Trick-or-treat in the borough is from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Collier leaf collection

Leaf collection in Collier continues through Dec. 2, with the township’s leaf vacuum serving residential streets only.

Leaves must be raked curbside or to the edge of residential properties. They also can be placed into brown paper lawn and leaf bags. No plastic bags will be taken. After Dec. 2, all leaves must be in brown bags for collection.

Yard waste also can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Public Works Stockyard, 110 Noblestown Road. Leaves, grass, branches and other waste will be accepted. Leaves can be placed in brown bags, but no plastic.

Bundled tree branches cannot exceed 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter. No paper bag or bundle can exceed 40 pounds.

Historical society program

Bridgeville Area Historical Society will host a program, “Corliss Explosion, May 12, 1902,” presented by Dave Aiken at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29. Learn about the Panhandle Railroad disaster that claimed dozens of lives 120 years ago.

The program will be held in the Chartiers Room of the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, 370 Commercial St., and is open to the public.

‘Haunted’ tours in Carnegie

The Haunted Walking Tours of Carnegie has been offering popular haunted history tours since 2017. Created by Melanie Luke, owner of the former shop the Flying Squirrel, the tours have continued after the shop’s closure.

The walking tour is a 1-mile loop with average tour times of one hour, featuring 10 stops with 10 true stories of the macabre, as told by enthusiastic docents. The tour also features access to two haunted buildings (one is tour-exclusive), a cemetery scavenger hunt for tombstone insignia, hands-on fun with “ghost nets” and a few surprises.

Tickets can be purchased directly on Eventbrite.com under Haunted Walking Tours of Carnegie (https://bit.ly/HAUNTEDCARNEGIE), or the Flying Squirrel’s social media pages on Facebook and Instagram at @flyingsquirreltoys, with tours running every Friday and Saturday through Oct. 29.

Halloween Promenade

Carnegie’s annual Halloween Promenade for children through sixth grade is on Oct. 29. Registration is at noon at the East Main Street bridge, and the promenade begins at 12:30, with free treat bags and prizes for all participating youngsters.

Awards will be given for the top three costumes in five age groups: infants and toddlers (through age 2), preschool (ages 3, 4 and 5), kindergarten and first grade, second and third grades, and fourth through sixth grades.

After the promenade, many downtown businesses will be open for trick-or-treat.

Rain date is Oct. 30. Trick-or-treat in the borough is from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Church concert series

Academy Concerts has teamed with Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills, 1240 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, for a 2022-23 concert series.
