South West Communities Chamber of Commerce hosts Impactful Women: Women in Military
Another installment of South West Chamber of Commerce’s Impactful Women series took place on Nov. 9 with Women in Military.
Around 30 guests attended the lunch at AC Hotels Marriott in Southpointe.
Speakers included retired Naval Officer Amy Knight, veteran career development director for the Veterans Leadership Program; Casey Nowicki, Army Reserves and development, marketing and events for Wesley Family Services; U.S. Air Force veteran Carissa Snedden of Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard; U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jessica King, case manager for the Veterans Leadership Program; and U.S. Army veteran Kristal Bartley, veteran career advisor for Veterans Leadership Program.
“The stories the female veterans shared at the Impactful Women: Women in Military event encapsulated the hardships that each woman had to endure, not only in their active roles in the military but also specifically to the adversity they faced as women in traditionally male institutions,” said chamber executive director Mandi Pryor. “Their stories showed how far the military has come in the acceptance of women as an integral part of our system, but also largely highlighted that certain protections for women still need to be put in place for the safety of those who wish to serve our country. Each woman showed enormous strength and fortitude in their post-military roles, helping to grow veteran’s programs and local non-profits within the region and we couldn’t have been more honored to have them join us and share their stories.”
