Chartiers Valley football’s Termite Team won the South Hills Youth Football championship over South Fayette on Nov. 2.

A cappella festival

Twelve Chartiers Valley High School chorus students participated in the first PMEA a cappella festival at Peters Township High School on Nov. 2.

Students were mentored by Deke Sharon, most known for creating the movie “Pitch Perfect.”

Chartiers Valley students at the festival included Lee Baseshore, Chanel Paige, Lorna Werner, Abigail Wylie, Christopher Mayfield, Brianna Gray, Averie Capozzoli, Olive Marcello, Adam Rubritz, Victoria Eames, Luisa Bautista and Antonia Kubiak.

Christmas in Bridgeville

Kickoff the holiday season with Bridgeville’s Winter Blast and Light Up Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at Triangle Park, 431 Station St.

The family, fun-filled evening includes a lighting of Triangle Park and the borough’s Christmas Tree, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

On Dec. 22, Santa will bring a special guest — the Grinch — with an escort through town by the Bridgeville firefighters. Before the annual tradition, starting at around 10 a.m., the Bridgeville Police Department and Buddy the Elf will be finding the Grinch hiding in town.

After the Grinch is caught, the community is invited to Dari Delite at 413 Bower Hill Road.

Christmas at the Bridgeville Library

The Bridgeville Library has a few Christmas events up its sleeve this December.

Make holiday traditions with a Cooking with Eric & Colleen class at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10.

A holiday mixer is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13 with a Happy Hour by the fireplace, wine and music.

A Family Fun Day with Santa is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 14. That event has children’s activities, crafts, magic show, music and fun.

Termite football champs

The Chartiers Valley Termite football team defeated South Fayette at the league championship game Nov. 2, becoming Super Bowl winners.

The team consists of students in kindergarten, first and second grades.

Ecumenical Thanksgiving service

An ecumenical Thanksgiving service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at Old St. Luke’s Church, 330 Old Washington Pike, Scott Township.

The Carnegie Area Ministerium Association is coordinating the annual service. Fr. Bob Popichak will be preaching and assisted by other clergy.

Pierogi sale

The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church pierogi sale will continue 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, at the church on 730 Washington Ave.

People can drop in or call ahead at 412-276-9897 to preorder their pierogi or meal to-go.

Youth basketball

Carnegie’s Boys and Girls Club is accepting sign-ups for Lil’ Dribblers, teen basketball program and youth basketball leagues.

Bridgeville snow angels

People interested in assisting Bridgeville residents during and after snowstorms can pitch in by being a “snow angel.”

The program is designed to minimize difficulties from snowstorms by matching volunteers with elderly or disabled residents to assist with snow removal.

Those interested can complete the “Bridgeville Snow Angel” form found on bridgevilleboro.com.

Annual tree lighting

Carnegie’s annual tree lighting event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 6.

Carnegie celebrates the season

Santa comes to the Carnegie Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

People can enjoy crafts, cookies, free caricatures and other fun activities at the library, 300 Beechwood Ave. Santa will be in the library in front of the fireplace for pictures.

All children receive a free gift and treat bag from Santa. The free event is sponsored by the borough, the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall, and the Carol Covi Children’s Event Committee.

Collier leaf collection

Leaf collection in Collier ends Dec. 6. Leaves must be raked curbside or to the edge of someone’s residence. Pickup is available through the township’s “Leaf-Vac” along residential streets only. Leaves may be bagged, and people should use brown leaf or garden bags only — no plastic. After Dec. 6, leaves must be bagged with brown leaf bags.

Leaf/yard waste drop-off is available from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday ending Dec. 6, at the public works stock yard, 110 Noblestown Road. The site accepts grass, leaves, garden waste and branches. Leaves may be bagged in only brown leaves or garden bags.

Bundled tree branches must not exceed 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter. Paper bags or bundles can’t exceed 40 pounds.

Life Line Screening

A Life Line Screening event will take place Nov. 27 at the Carnegie Borough Building, 1 Veterans Way. Screenings are for stroke and cardiovascular disease risk.

Carlynton Superintendent forums

Carlynton Superintendent John Kreider is hosting a series of parent and community forums this school year.

The remaining forums are scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 12 at Crafton Elementary; 6 p.m. Jan. 29 at Carnegie Elementary; 9 a.m. Feb. 3 Jr.-Sr. high school’s Cougar Collaboration Center; 6 p.m. March 3 at Crafton Elementary; and 6 p.m. April 24 at Carnegie Elementary.

Thanksgiving Day open house

A Thanksgiving Day Open House will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 200 Mansfield Ave., Carnegie.

The church will have its annual free, in-person, buffet-style, Thanksgiving dinner open house.

Takeout and delivery orders must be placed by noon Nov. 27. To place an order, call 412-276-9718 or email ssppdinners@orthodoxcarnegie.org. Provide your name, address, phone number and number of dinners needed.

Pancake breakfast

A pancake breakfast is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at St. Raphael the Archangel at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Worship Site, 330 Third Ave.

The breakfast is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in St. Luke’s Hall.

Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, coffee or tea.

An evening with Delana Flowers

“Saturday Soirées: An Evening with Delana Flowers — Classy, Jazzy, and a Little Bit Sassy,” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall, 300 Beechwood Ave., Carnegie.

Flowers is a vocalist, actress, spoken word artist, model and writer.

Holiday open house in Scott

The small businesses of the Davis building in Scott will have a holiday open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 30.

Sterling Yoga and Wellness Center will host free sessions for its salt cave and sauna, and a discounted mini-Reiki healing session.

The Art Shoppe is hosting a students art show of work by children, adults and home-schooled students. There will be a sale of art prints, greeting cards and ornaments by Becky Mayhew.

Demonstrations, specials and discount offers will be available from Pilates With Courtney, Mutt Manor, Hair By Macie, Davis Law Group PC and Scott Advertising.

Refreshments will be served. The building is at 393 Vanadium Road.

College Club of Carnegie

The College Club of Carnegie will meet on Dec. 7 at the Olive Garden Restaurant, 971 Greentree Road, Green Tree.

The annual Christmas luncheon will be the focus of the holiday celebration. A 50/50 raffle to benefit the club scholarship fund will be offered.
