Boxing event scheduled to benefit cats

A Pittsburgh-area animal care nonprofit is hosting a charity boxing event to benefit cats in need.

Nose 2 Tail Cat Rescue is hosting the “Put Your Paws Up” charity boxing event June 1, at 7 p.m. at the Chartiers Room, 370 Commercial St., Bridgeville.

The event features amateur boxing matches sanctioned by USA Boxing and local boxers. Doors open at 6 p.m. This event aims to raise crucial funds for cat rescue efforts.

Tickets can be purchased online at givebutter.com/2024PutYourPawsUp or at the venue on the day of the event. VIP tickets cost $50; general admission costs $30; and children 10 and younger are admitted for $20.

Electronic waste collection days in Bridgeville

A free electronic recycling collection will take place June 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, 370 Commercial St.

Materials collected include televisions, computers, laptops, computer monitors, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, computer equipment, radios, telephones, gaming consoles and systems.

A household hazardous waste collection event is scheduled for July 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at the Bridgeville VFD. Electronics will be collected for a fee per pound. Recycled items include paint or workshop products, automotive products, cleaning supplies, lawn and garden products, pesticides, batteries, light bulbs, flammables and more. On Sept. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m., state Rep. Anita Kulik is sponsoring a free paper shredding event at the Bridgeville VFD.

Papers must be loose and not include binder or paper clips. Documents will be shredded on site.

Scott fireworks show

Scott inked a deal with Pyrotecnico Fireworks, Inc., to provide the fireworks display for the township’s Fourth of July celebrations this summer and next.

Pyrotecnico has provided the displays in Scott for the past two years. This year’s display will last about 20 minutes and will cost $12,650.

Historical Society presentations set

The Bridgeville Area Historical Society has scheduled presentations through June.

On May 28, Layla Asbury, a 16-year-old sophomore at Chartiers Valley High School, will lead a presentation on the relationships of presidents and their wives.

On June 25, Glenn Flickinger will talk on the story of the Berlin Airlift.

All programs begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Programs are held at the Chartiers Room in the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, Commercial Street, Bridgeville.

Carnegie Dogapalooza

A “Dogapalooza” event will be held June 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the dog park in Carnegie Park.

Events include vaccinations, dog licensing, nail trimming, music, food and dog crafts and treats. People are encouraged to dress their dog for the dog parade.

Coffee with Scott’s manager

Scott Manager Denise Fitzgerald is inviting the public for coffee and conversation on June 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The event will be held in the manager’s meeting room on the second floor of the municipal building, 301 Lindsay Road.

SRO agreement approved

Chartiers Valley school directors approved a School Resource Officer services agreement with Collier and Scott townships.

The agreement with Collier calls for two school resource officers from Jan. 1, 2024, through June 30, 2026, for $16,215 per month for this year, $16,945 per month next year and $17,622 per month for 2026.

The agreement with Scott includes one school resource officer from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2026, for $8,200 per month for this year, $8,445 per month for next year and $8,783 per month for 2026.

Bridgeville Lions Club seeks new members

The Bridgeville Greater Area Lions Club is actively seeking new members.

The club supports the communities of Bridgeville, Collier, Heidelberg and South Fayette. Relief causes include diabetes, vision care, hunger, environment and childhood cancer.

Collier Knight School

The Knight School of Pittsburgh will be offering chess camp at the Collier Township Recreation Center, 5 Lobaugh St., Oakdale.

Session dates are from June 24 through 28 or Aug. 5 through 9, both from 1 to 4 p.m. Children ages 5 to 11 are eligible. The cost is $170 for members and $190 for non-members.

Carnegie Memorial Day Parade

The Carnegie Memorial Day parade will be held Sunday, May 26 starting at 2 p.m.

The parade is in downtown Carnegie and runs along West and East Main streets, starting at the borough building and ending at the American Legion, 421 Jane St.

A memorial service will be held at the American Legion after the parade.

Collier Memorial Day

Collier will recognize Memorial Day with a ceremony May 27, at 8:30 a.m. at the township municipal building.

The event will take place at the Veterans Memorial outside the building, 2418 Hilltop Road, Presto.

Steelers donate weight room equipment

Chartiers Valley’s weight room will feature a touch of Pittsburgh Steelers.

The school board approved a donation from the Steelers for $75,000 worth of weight room equipment.

Collier Dad’s Day

Collier Kids Club will celebrate “all about Dad” during an event June 5 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Kids Club is for children ages 3 to 5. The event is $5 for members and $6 for non-members.

Scott fire pit rental changes

People renting facilities at Scott Park will now have to reserve the fire pit as a separate rental, because of an increased demand for the fire pit, according to the township.

The rental cost for the pit is $5, according to the township.

Scott originally had included it as an option for facilities, but an increased demand led to double bookings being more common.

Pierogi sale

The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church Pierogi Sale will be held Thursday and Fridays through June, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church, 730 Washington Ave., Carnegie.

Items for sale include homemade pierogi, borscht, or a meal to go. People can call 412-276-9897 to pre-order.
