Crosswalk improvements to be considered at Bridgeville’s Bower Hill Road at Commercial Street
Engineers will study how officials can improve a crosswalk along Bower Hill Road in Bridgeville’s business district.
Bridgeville Council in December authorized the borough’s engineer, John Heyl, to prepare a formal construction plan to improve the crosswalk across Bower Hill Road at Commercial Street, in front of Dari Delite.
“This project will study and, if feasible, develop the construction plans to install rectangular rapid-flashing beacon lighting that will assist pedestrians across the street,” said borough Manager Joe Kauer.
Kauer said the crossing is not at a signalized intersection. The average traffic count on that section of Bower Hill is 11,200 vehicles daily, he said.
The project was recommended from the borough’s active transportation plan to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety within Bridgeville, Kauer said. A PennDOT study collected traffic count and crash data that will assist engineers in preparing a plan for the intersection, Kauer said.
The borough will seek grant funding for its construction. Borough officials are required to have a plan for approval from PennDOT for a beacon at the crosswalk.
Construction costs have not been determined. He said borough officials have not set a timeline but hope to make progress next year.
