A flood mitigation project has begun in Bridgeville’s McLaughlin Run Park. The ballfield there is being lowered four to six feet and trash racks are being installed in the stream in order to prevent large debris from blocking upstream culverts during high water and from getting to bridges downstream in Bridgeville. Once the debris hits the trash racks, it will then be diverted into the field area at McLaughlin Run Park that will also capture some of the water. More than 1,200 truckloads of earth are being excavated. Once the hauling is completed by early December, the field will be restored into an all-purpose field and the remaining park improvements including paving will be completed.

This project is being funded by a $425,000 grant from Allegheny County and the Commonwealth.
