Chartiers Valley’s dance troupe competed against top teams in the country during a national competition in Orlando, Fla.

Chartiers Valley High School’s dance troupe remains one of the top high school dance teams in the country.

The team traveled to Orlando, Fla., from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 to compete in the Universal Dance Association National Dance Team Championship, said Coach Riley Maghery.

Ultimately, they placed fourth in the DII small varsity hip hop category, and eighth in the nation for DII small varsity jazz, Maghery said.

“This was the team’s highest jazz placement matching their achievement from the 2023 season, where they also placed eighth in the nation in the jazz division,” Maghery said.

In the hip hop category, the troupe placed so well that they advanced straight to the finals instead of going through all three rounds of competition. It’s the second-consecutive year they were able to accomplish that feat, Maghery said.

“The team had incredible performances the entire Nationals competition,” she said.

Maghery said the troupe competed against different teams than they had the past few years because of the way the competition’s divisions were created this year.

The coach complimented the troupe’s ability to overcome changes and challenges thrown its way and their ability to work hard to reach their goals.

“We could not be prouder of the team’s performances and all they accomplished this season,” she said. “This team has been beyond resilient, dedicated and passionate throughout the entire season.”
