Chartiers Park to get new pavilion

A new pavilion at Chartiers Park will greet parkgoers next summer.
Bridgeville officials received a grant of more than $100,000 to rehab Chartiers Park, which includes replacing the existing the pavilion.
“The shelter’s current asphalt floor is bulging and in poor shape from tree roots, and other parts of the shelter are in poor condition too,” said Joe Kauer, Bridgeville borough manager.
“This project will replace the current shelter with a new 52 foot by 30 foot pavilion shelter, reestablish utilities, provide ADA accommodations, replace the picnic tables and have a safe concrete walking surface and floor.”
The $102,900 grant will pay for half of the project’s cost, Kauer said. The funding comes from the state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Matching funds come from the borough’s budget.
Kauer anticipates the project to be completed before next summer.
Nearby, DNCR also awarded $892,600 to the Allegheny Land Trust for payment toward the acquisition of roughly 231 acres in Collier and South Fayette townships for open space and passive recreation.
