4 candidates running for 2 open Scott commissioner seats
Two candidates are competing for one Scott Township Ward 1 commissioner seat, a four-year term.
Following is information submitted by the candidates as well as their response to questions posed by the Trib:
Question 1: What are the two biggest challenges facing Scott Township and what ideas or policies will you offer, support or promote to address them?
Question 2: How has your background and experience equipped you to make decisions affecting the operation of the township?
Eileen Meyers
Political party: Democrat
Address: Magazine Street
Age: 63
Occupation: Commissioner and florist
Previous elected position: Commissioner for the past 20 years
Question 1: Two of the biggest challenges I see are to keep taxes low and affordable by making everyone accountable for spending and keeping within the budget, while still maintaining the same level of services to the residents.
Also trying to address the blighted and abandon properties the best we can, by working with homeowners and with the Vacant Property Recovery Program. A program where residents can acquire a property next to them at a much lower cost, therefore getting it back on the tax rolls. In some cases a structure may be demolished and in that case, I would help work to obtain grant money to help to defray the cost.
Question 2: My past experience of being on the board of commissioners for the past twenty years working on policies, procedures and budget meetings during that time will be an asset in helping to make informed decisions. It’s been an honor to serve my community for the past 20 years.
