Cycling and fix-it enthusiasts can get their fill once again after a popular North Side destination has reopened seven days a week.
Bicycle Heaven Museum, pegged as the “world’s largest bike museum, sales shop and repairs,” has been closed since Christmas Eve after a broken waterline flooded the space along Preble Avenue.
“We just want to thank you so very much to all of our friends and Bicycle Heaven Museum fans and supporters everywhere for your support the last couple months,” owner Craig Morrow posted on Facebook.
The nonprofit museum is free to the public. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
The building holds more than 6,000 bikes, most of which avoided serious damage in the flood but many of the floors and carpets needed to be replaced. Some of the vintage bike accessories were also damaged.
It was Christmas Eve when Morrow discovered the rampant flooding in his multi-level space, with the basement filled four-feet high with water.
A GoFundMe brought in nearly $18,000 to help with repairs.
Morrow said that this year’s swap meet dates are still on. They are scheduled May 27 and 28 and Aug. 19 and 20.
