Bethel Park police want to find out who entered unlocked vehicles and stole a car from the Hi-Gate neighborhood early Friday morning.

The theft took place sometime between midnight and 1:30 a.m.

Police Chief Tim O’Connor said a silver Volkswagen with a roof rack and a “W&J” sticker with the license plate GBH-9972 was taken.

Anyone who sees it is urged to contact police.

Unlocked vehicles entered were parked along Forest Road as well as Parkridge, Maplevue, Middlegate, Thornwood, Ashland and Florence drives.

Any resident in this area with security cameras is asked to check and report any suspicious activity to dispatch at 412-833-2000 or crimewatch@bethelpark.net

O’Connor said residents and visitors should lock their cars and store their valuables while in the borough to help prevent theft.

This is the second time this month police reported someone was going around and entering unlocked vehicles.

Police posted on the department’s Facebook page July 7 that someone was entering cars in the area of Diablo and Hollydale drives, Lorlita Lane and McMurray Road. However, no vehicle was stolen at that time.

Those incidents took place between 2-4:30 a.m.

Police later arrested Michael Sefcik, 36, of Pittsburgh later that morning after he allegedly broke in to an apartment complex along McMurray Road, took a shower and became combative with police.

The chief said Sefcik was responsible for those vehicle entries.
