Ruthfred Acres meeting

The Ruthfred Acres Woman’s Club will hold its next regular meeting on Nov. 8 at Crowne Plaza Suites Pittsburgh South, 164 Fort Couch Road, Bethel Park. Lunch is at noon.

The program, “Pittsburgh on Your Plate,” will be presented by author Joanne Niehl. “Pittsburgh on Your Plate” is a cookbook filled with 175 recipes and stories that define the city, its people and its culture. There is even a special Pittsburgh cookie table section featuring 30 of her favorites.

The club is a philanthropic organization dedicated to doing charitable deeds and supporting the needs and efforts of the community, along with enriching the lives of its members through social and educational opportunities.

Art guild welcomes pet painter

Bethel Art Guild’s next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave.

A light lunch and socializing begins the meeting. Feel free to bring cookies to share.

Following a short business meeting, guest speaker Anne Frederickson will talk about her focus on painting wildlife and pet portraits. A retired teacher, she has earned a Botanical Illustrator Certificate from Phipps Conservatory.

She is an avid dog lover and volunteers at her local pet shelter, where she is completing portraits of the animals. She hopes to develop a note card packet, proceeds of which will benefit the shelter.

‘Christmas in Reverse’ musical

The Acting Up Club at South Hills Church of the Nazarene will present its next musical, “Christmas in Reverse,” at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 and 11.

The performances are free and open to everyone. A cookie reception will follow each show to meet and greet the performers and staff members.

South Hills Church of the Nazarene is at 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park.

Program helps teens

Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair is hosting several conversations, led by experts in their field, on the pressures, expectations and mental health needs of teenagers and their families.

The next event is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Leader Ted Hoover, an educator and trainer with Persad Center, has worked with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Family Health on such issues as LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention, adolescent sexual health and creating safe work/education environments across the Commonwealth.

On Jan. 11, Dennis Gillan will give a presentation about how he recovered from the suicide deaths of both of his brothers. “Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness” video screening and discussion is scheduled for Feb. 8.

Academy Concerts has teamed with Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills, 1240 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, for a 2022-23 concert series.
