After new reported covid cases decreased for three days, they went up again in Allegheny County.
There were 694 new cases reported Tuesday, following 849 cases reported Saturday, 519 cases on Sunday and 368 cases on Monday.
In addition to cases, there were 15 new deaths reported Tuesday in the county. Total cases and total deaths now stand at 61,769 and 1,104, respectively. In January so far, there have been 7,960 cases and 149 deaths reported.
As of Tuesday, there are 535 covid-19 patients hospitalized in Allegheny County, with 163 in the ICU and 66 on ventilators.
According to the state Department of Health covid-19 dashboard, there are 70 ICU and 472 medical/surgical beds available in the county, which represent about 12% and 13% of those beds, respectively.
Tuesday’s new cases range from 3 months to 99 years old, with a median age of 39. Dates of positive tests range from Dec. 3 to Monday, with the county Health Department noting that 21 positive tests are more than a week old. Of the 694 new cases, 481 are confirmed through PCR test and 213 are probable.
New deaths reported Tuesday occurred in those 50 or older, with one person in their 50s, two in their 60s, seven in their 70s, one in their 80s and four in their 90s. Nine of the 15 deaths were associated with long-term care facilities. Dates of deaths range from Dec. 14 to Sunday.
