Allegheny County reports 1st child death from covid-19, new record 7-day case total
Allegheny County set records Tuesday for seven-day total of new covid-19 cases and seven-day average of new cases.
From Nov. 18 to Tuesday, 3,810 cases of coronavirus were reported, beating the previous record (3,671) by 139 cases. Over that same span, the average daily cases reported was 544.
There were four new coronavirus-related deaths reported Tuesday in Allegheny County, with one being a young child who had underlying medical conditions, according to the county Health Department. The age of the child was not disclosed. The death marks the first child to pass away from covid-19 in the county. Previously, the youngest victim of the virus was a person in their 20s.
The other three deaths were people 60 or older (one in their 60s, one in their 80s and one in their 90s). Two of the deaths were associated with long-term care facilities. Dates of new deaths ranged from Nov. 12 to Nov. 21.
There were 541 new covid-19 cases (449 confirmed and 92 probable) also reported.
Ages of new cases ranged from 6 months to 97 with a median age of 37 years. Positive tests ranged from Oct. 18 to Nov. 23. Three tests are more than a week old, and only one is from October, per the health department.
Total cases and total deaths now stand at 24,624 and 486, respectively.
In Allegheny County, there are 572 covid-19 patients hospitalized, with 156 in the adult ICU and 67 on ventilators, according to the state Department of Health covid-19 dashboard. As of Tuesday, there are 655 medical/surgical beds, 89 adult ICU beds and 20 pediatric ICU beds available in the county.
