Allegheny County reports 1 new covid death; trend continues of low deaths reported

Allegheny County reported one additional covid-related death Tuesday, according to the county Health Department.

The individual was in their 80s and died Sunday.

That continues a trend in recent days where no or few covid-19 deaths have been reported. In the past four days, four deaths have been reported, with one reported Tuesday and three reported Saturday.

Total deaths in the county now stand at 1,584, with 131 deaths reported in February.

On Tuesday, there were 225 covid-19 patients hospitalized in Allegheny County, according to the state Department of Health. Hospitalizations have increased the past two days, but have generally decreased throughout February. The number of patients hospitalized started this month at 313.

There were 199 additional covid cases reported Tuesday, bringing total cases up to 73,598. New cases ranged in age from 1 year to 88 years with a median age of 40 years. Dates of positive tests range from Feb. 8 to Monday, with the county Health Department stating two positive tests were more than a week old.

In February, 4,230 cases have been reported for an average of 264 cases reported per day. Compared to recent months, that number is down, even with less than two weeks left in February.

January average: 501 cases per day

December average: 819 cases per day

November average: 420 cases per day
