On Monday, the Allegheny County Health Department announced 142 new covid-19 cases — but over a two-day span.
Pennsylvania’s Department of Health said last week it will begin skipping a Sunday update on cases, choosing instead to publish a two-day report on Mondays. The result could lead to a seemingly higher count of cases and deaths on those days.
Broken down by day, there were 87 new cases from Sunday and 55 on Monday.
The county reports that in the past 48 hours, 1,491 tests were processed. The test dates range from Sept. 6-13.
Among the 142 positive results, 132 were confirmed and 10 were probable. The new cases — 71 males, 45 females — range in age from 11 months to 92 years, with a median age of 27 years.
The county said there were no new covid-19 related deaths since Saturday.

To date, the county has seen 11,268 cases of covid, with 361 deaths.
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are currently 47 Allegheny County residents in the hospital for the virus, with 11 of them on ventilators. There were no new hospitalizations in the county since Saturday. In all, 1,057 Allegheny County residents have been hospitalized for covid-19.
On Monday, the county updated its neighborhood/municipality breakdown report, showing that Baldwin Borough now leads with the most cases (405), followed by Penn Hills (372), Ross (343), Mount Lebanon (285) and Monroeville (253).
With 34, Ross is where the most covid-related deaths have happened, followed by Richland (31), Glen Hazel (21), Kennedy (20) and Baldwin Borough, McCandless and Shadyside each tied with 14.
The county’s website is reporting outcomes in 8,410 cases — where 8,049 are assumed to be recovered and 361 have died. That makes the recovery rate nearly 96% in cases with an outcome. Out of the county’s total covid-19 cases, there remain 2,858 cases without an assumed outcome.
The website counts individuals as recovered based on one of two conditions: It’s been 32 days since the person was hospitalized for covid-19 and not deceased; or, if they were not hospitalized, 14 days since they tested positive.
Officials report no new cases at the Allegheny County Jail, with no inmates with covid in the facility. A total of 467 inmates have been tested to date, with 38 of them testing positive — all of which have either recovered or been released. Among jail workers, the county reports there have been a total of 15 positive cases — two new ones within the past week. A total of 120 employees have been tested, with 105 being negative. Ten workers at the jail have recovered.
As always, state and county health officials urge residents to wear masks, wash their hands and maintain physical distance from others to keep the community safe.
