Allegheny County nears another covid-19 milestone with new cases

Allegheny County reported 508 new covid-19 cases Wednesday, according to the county Health Department.

Ages of new cases range from 3 months to 100 years old, with a median age of 47 years old. Dates of positive tests are from Nov. 14 through Tuesday, with only 14 positive tests being more than a week old.

The new cases bring the county closer to another milestone — 30,000 cases — that it is likely to reach this week. Allegheny County reached 15,000 covid-19 cases on Oct. 27, after reporting its first cases March 14.

Over the past seven days, Allegheny County has averaged 619 new cases a day. Total cases as of Wednesday stand at 29,515.

There were 10 new coronavirus-related deaths reported Wednesday, the most in a week. Dates of death were from Nov. 18 to Monday. All new deaths were individuals 60 or older (One person in their 60s, one in their 70s, five in their 80s, two in their 90s and one over 100). Total deaths in the county are now 524.

In the county, there are 641 covid-19 patients hospitalized, with 182 in the ICU and 100 on ventilators, according to data from the state Department of Health.
