Allegheny County adds 177 covid cases over past 2 days
The Allegheny County Health Department announced Monday there have been 177 new covid-19 cases over the past two days.
In a report, the department said there were 73 new cases added Monday, while 104 new cases were added Sunday.
The results come from 2,402 tests conducted from Oct. 15-25.
Among Monday’s new cases, 67 were confirmed, six probable. Among Sunday’s cases, 91 were confirmed, 13 probable. Among the probable cases, 14 are from positive antigen tests.
New cases range in age from 1 to 95, with a median age of 43.
The county is reporting no new deaths have been registered with the department over the past two days. The county’s covid-related death total stands at 421.
Among the new cases — 84 females, 93 males — the age group breakdowns are as follows:
- 0-4: 3
- 5-12: 5
- 13-18: 12
- 19-24: 25
- 25-49: 61
- 50-64: 50
- 65 and older :21
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 159 Allegheny County residents currently in the hospital with the virus, 23 of them on ventilators. State officials report there are 810 operational ventilators in the county, with 192 (23.7%) currently in use for all illnesses. To date, the county reports 1,392 residents have been hospitalized for the virus, with 13 new hospitalizations over the past two days.
The county’s website is reporting outcomes in 10,832 cases — with 10,411 assumed to be recovered and 421 deaths. The current recovery rate for those whose case has an outcome is just over 96%. Out of the county’s 14,995 total covid-19 cases, 4,163 cases remain without an assumed outcome.
Cases are considered to be “recovered” after it’s been 32 days since the person was hospitalized for covid-19 and not deceased or, if they weren’t hospitalized within 14 days of testing positive.
Officials are reporting two new covid cases in the past week among employees at the Allegheny County Jail. A total of 17 workers have now tested positive, with 14 of them having recovered. To date, 137 workers there have been tested, with 120 testing negative. The county said there have been no new cases among inmates, with 570 have been tested — 38 positives, 522 negatives and five tests pending. All 38 of the covid-positive inmates have either recovered or been released.
Since the pandemic began in March, 221,084 county residents have been tested for the virus, with 206,089 reported negative — meaning 93.2% of those tested have been negative.
